The classic dishes in Berlin - no make that, in all of Germany – all contain meat: Currywurst (spicy sausage), Schnitzel (boneless meat, thinned with a meat tenderizer, coated with flour, beaten eggs and breadcrumbs, and then fried), and Döner (Turkish dish made of meat cooked on a vertical rotisserie). Time for me as a vegetarian to see if it's possible to enjoy a yummy, healthy meal in Berlin and even the classic German dishes without any meat.
Well, at least it's a dream come true... For us that is. A visit to Copenhagen, Denmark has been on our European travel list for a long time. And now that we've been to the amazing capital of Denmark we want to share this fairytale trip with you guys.
A church filled with at least 35 breweries, each bringing several of their best or most interesting brews, is something we wouldn't want to miss. Since we heard about this Dutch Beer Tasting Festival we were counting the days till it was time to head over to The Hague (Holland). See the craft beers we tasted (in 2015) and be inspired for the upcoming edition of this awesome Dutch craft beer festival.
When travelling around the world hostels are always a fun and cheap way to spend the night. So what are hostels in Holland like? Are there any? Of course! In the Holland (or do you prefer to say the Netherlands?) the member organisation is called Stayokay and we recently found out that staying there is more than okay. Actually, it was StayAwesome!
Germany is known for its Christmas markets. Each city and town organises one (or more) Christmas market in the festive season. We travelled to Dortmund (a city in the “Bundesland” or federated state North Rhine-Westphalia) in the northwestern part of Germany to check out how they celebrate the days before Christmas.
You simply cannot visit Holland without seeing a cheese-related thing or event. Whether it's a local cheese market (for example in Alkmaar or Gouda), a cheese museum or a cheese tasting, without cheese your visit to Holland isn't complete. What could be better than spending a night (or two) in the cheese capital? We stayed at the Grand Hotel in Alkmaar.
Every once in a while you come across a hotel that is different or quirky. As we love different, we just had to spend the night at the SS Rotterdam hotel when we visited Rotterdam. Spending the night on a former cruise ship, how awesome is that? Read on and you'll know.
