We travel. We enjoy life. We share stories.

Topics covered in this article

Maybe you just came across our travel blog or maybe you're familiar with our previous stuff (DIY-OE). As we recently launched (re-branded) our travel blog Travel.Geek.NZ we would like to tell you guys a bit more about who we are and what our plans are.

Well, the creative mind (aka creative weirdo) behind this travel blog and an explanation of what DIY-OE was can all be found in the about us section. That's all water under the bridge or familiar stuff. We like to look ahead, to the future. Make plans about all the places we want to visit, the blog posts we want to write, the people we want to travel with and the fun we want to have.

What's more important: past, present or future?

There's no present without the past. Without the past, there will be no future. Well, actually there's is no future at all. It may sound a bit dark and gloomy but it isn't meant like that. As Doc Brown said in Back to the Future III: “…your future hasn't been written yet. No-one's has. Your future is whatever you make it. So make it a good one…”

You're in control. It's your life. From that perspective, this travel blog was created.

The future is now for Travel.Geek.NZ

Some of us know how to seize the day. Some of us still like to plan weeks, months and even years ahead. And some of us worry about what others might think. We like to connect all those people and let them inspire each other through a joint-passion: travel.

    We Travel.

Travel connects us all. Through travel, we go places, see new cities, meet new people and taste different food. Almost everyone wants to travel in some way or form. Whether it's a round-the-world-trip, a backing adventure, working holiday, a summer holiday or just a weekend getaway. We all like to travel.

    We Enjoy Life.

Looking forward to things is a great feeling. For me, it's the best feeling. Having booked that ticket means you're ready to explore another part of the world. The countdown has begun as soon as you see that ‘your trip has been confirmed' message on your screen.

You get the same excitement when you board your plane, train, boat or whatever vehicle will take you to your next destination. It happens when you arrive. When you taste great (local) food. Listen to awesome music. Jump around in the mosh pit of an amazing festival. Enjoy craft beer while discussing your next destination… It goes on and on.

That feeling is enjoying life. Try to keep that feeling in everything you do, not just in your spare time but in everything you do.

    We Share Stories.

Blogging is just telling someone about your trip. Like people did in the old days when seafarers came back from far away, unknown countries. It's storytelling. And nowadays we publish it on a blog. Our travel blog: Travel.Geek.NZ – Not just our stories but your travel stories as well.

    My personal perspective

People that know me, know what drives me. But that isn't really that important. What is important, is that no matter what you do, you need to follow your heart. Stay true to yourself, the things you like to do and the people you love.

For me, there are two songs that describe this feeling aka the reasons why Travel.Geek.NZ was created.

Reach for the sky – Social Distortion

“But the day may come when you got something to lose
And just when you think you're done paying dues
You say to yourself “Dear, God What have I Done?”
And hope it's not too late cause tomorrow may never come”

    Heute Schon Gelebt – Broilers

The song that just asks one question: “habt ihr heute schon gelebt?” (have you lived today?)

Although I prefer to post another video clip from German band Broilers. This one is even more of a reality check. It's about missing loved ones. Missing out on time with these people. Missing out on amazing moments and experiences. Missing out when you don't follow your heart, don't follow your passion. It shows that you need to live like there's no tomorrow.

    To wrap it up…

That's why I created a travel blog in 2010: to share, to inspire and to be inspired. And from now on that travel blog is called: Travel.Geek.NZ.

We Travel. We Enjoy Life. We Share Stories.
